The Researchers favorit pedometer

Yamax / KeepWalking pedometers are considered to be the Gold Standard pedometer of the world by scientists. Yamax / KeepWalking pedometers have the unique "SW Movement" mechanism which is sensitive enough to record all the steps but also to discriminate and remove unwanted steps such as them caused by riding bus, train or travel with car.

Of the approximately 600 internationally published scientific articles using pedometers about 85-90% used the Yamax SW series (in Scandinavia KeepWalking LS 2000/LS7000). Source: Pub Med.

In the rest of the articles pedometers from NL, Tanita, Omron have been used.

No internationally published research have used pedometers Silva, Techtrail, Asaklitt, Findus, MacDonald and the other of the on the Swedish market pedometers of unknown origin.

A comparison of Kellogs and Yamax pedometer can be found in; "Evaluation of quality of commercial pedometers by Tudor Locke et al"

A thesis at the Karolinska Institute has examined five models that are common on the Swedish market, including those form sports stores, the pharmacy and those from various companies arranging step competitions for companies. Compared with our LS2000 the mean deviation was up to 30%. In individual cases the deviation was considerably larger.

Pedometer by lower quality were often containing a filter function which filters out the first steps in a step sequence. Usually, we have absolutely no idea how many steps that are filtered out in this way during a day. The scientists do therefor not recommend a filter function on the pedometer.
